Self-Help CU Names New Head OfAnti-Predatory Lobby Arm

DURHAM, N.C. - (07/18/06) – The Center for CommunitySelf-Help, the $2 billion parent of Self-Help CU, announced Mondaythat Michael Calhoun has been promoted from general counsel topresident of its wholly owned Center for Responsible Lending, itsWashington-based anti-predatory lending lobby. Calhoun, who alsoserved as the parent organization’s chief lobbyist, was alead author of the 1999 anti-predatory mortgage lending law inNorth Carolina. Self-Help said that Calhoun’s promotion tothe head of CRL indicates an ever greater emphasis on lobbying bythe group. The Center for Community Self-Help is also the parent ofSelf-Help Ventures Fund, as well as the $220-million communitydevelopment credit union.
