ATLANTA - (06/25/04) -- CU Service Corp. said it added 182new branches to its network in the first half of the year, making atotal of 1,400 locations available nationwide. That includes theaddition of the Maine network, which signed on with CUSC in springof 2004 and has since opened 12 locations. Indiana led the way withnew locations on the CUSC network, with the addition of 26 servicecenters opening since June 2003.
The Cleveland-based bank is projecting steady growth in net interest income even as credit losses remain manageable. But Chairman and CEO Chris Gorman also said that he thinks a recession is likely.
The first-quarter increase involved commercial real estate loans, including some problematic multifamily loans and an office credit, but none of the criticized loans were to consumers, officials at the Dallas company say. Further CRE deterioration is anticipated.
