Suspect Convicted In Botched CUHold-Up

BANGOR, Me. - (10/06/04) -- An Arkansas man was convicted Mondayof an attempted robbery at Gardiner FCU last November in which hetied up and threatened two employees. But Michael Mahone, 26, wasunable get into the cash vault because it had been locked before hegot into the building and the timelock prevented it form beingopened until the next day, police said. A mask, gloves, darkclothing and shoes believed worn by Mahone during the failedhold-up were found in a garbage bag near the suspect's car, whichwas parked in an industrial park about a quarter-mile from thecredit union. Mahone was arrested about a month after the robberywhile working as a waiter in nearby Conway, N.H.
