Teller Siphoned Funds From MemberAccounts

MICHIGAN CITY, Mich. - (01/10/05) -- A former member servicerepresentative for South Shore Railroad Employees FCU pleadedguilty last week to stealing $80,000 from member accounts to helppay her and her husband's personal expenses, including installationof a new swimming pool. Karrie Carder, 38, was sentenced to eightyears or work release and ordered to pay restitution, most of it tthe credit union's insurer, CUNA Mutual Group. Carder toldinvestigators she stole the funds by filling out withdrawal slipsand forging members' signatures. Carder, who worked at the creditunion for 10 years, was fired after an audit uncovered the schemelast April.
