Washington To Begin Examining CU WebSites

OLYMPIA, Wash. - (07/28/06) -- The Department of FinancialInstitutions said it will begin examining state chartered creditunions' web site for compliance with consumer protection laws andregulations. Among the matters to be reviewed are the accuracy ofadvertising, compliance with consumer laws like the Equal CreditOpportunity, Fair Housing, Electronic Funds Transfer and Truth InLending acts, safeguards against phishing, accuracy of hyperlinkand overdraft protection disclosures. The examinations arescheduled to begin the beginning of September.
