Becker Named To Top CEO List

ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU President Fred Becker has been named one of 2010's top association CEOs by CEO Update. In all, just 20 CEOs were recognized. The publication cited Becker's efforts to "distance the prudent and consumer-friendly practices of credit unions from other, more troubled segments of the financial services sector," among other efforts.

 

More Credit Unions in Mergers

TRUMBULL, Conn.-The $18-million Personal Care America FCU has absorbed via merger the $2.3-million Fairfield University EFCU. The move brings approximately 6,000 potential new members to PCA FCU. In Fort Wayne, Ind., meanwhile, Beacon CU is absorbing DeKalb Financial CU of Auburn, Ind. The combined CU will have approximately 45,400 members and $775 million assets.

 

Changes On NASCUS Exec Council

ARLINGTON, Va.-Dan Kester, president of Sooper CU in Colorado has been appointed to serve as a Director on the NASCUS Credit Union Executive Council, while Steve Behler, current Executive Council Director and president of Kemba Credit Union in Ohio, has been elected to serve as secretary.

 

PCUA Makes Governance Changes

HARRISBURG, Penn.-The Pennsylvania CU Association has made several changes to its governance. Beginning in 2012, directors will begin to be elected by asset category rather than by district. The number of directors will remain at nine with three being elected from credit unions less than $30 million in assets, three from $30 million to $100 million in assets, and three from credit unions greater than $100 million in assets. The changes to the PCUA board began in 2005 when it moved to reduce its board size from 21 to nine.

 

Comp Survey Also Helps Charity

COVINA, Calif.- For the 7th consecutive year, ECS is sending out a call to participate in its 2010 Survey: Employee & Executive Compensation & Benefits Survey for the Credit Union Movement. "The data assembled allows senior management and boards to make sound decisions when it comes to compensation and benefits for their key value creators," the company said. For each credit union that participates by completing the questionnaire, ECS will donate $10 to Credit Unions for Kids to further augment the impact of the contributions program.

More Than $100K Raised Via Auctions

LAS VEGAS-A record amount was raised by the World Council of CUs during its silent and live auction at the 1 Credit Union Conference here. Combined, the two auctions raised nearly $74,000, which will be used to support global CU development. Separately another $28,000 was raised for the Busia Compassionate Centre, an orphanage that WOCCU supports in rural Kenya.

 

Clearview Drops Infringement Suit

MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn.-The $619-million Clearview FCU has withdrawn its trademark infringement lawsuit against a Florida debt settlement company after the company agreed to change its name from Clearview Credit Inc. (CCI) back to its previous name of Debt Reduction America Inc.

 

CUAC Hires Firm For Search

DENVER-The Credit Union Association of Colorado (CUAC) has selected executive recruitment firm O'Rourke & Associates to conduct the search for a new president/CEO of the organization. Pete Kirchof is currently serving as interim CEO following the resignation of John Dill. The CEO search committee is chaired by Dave Maus, president/CEO of Public Service CU, Denver.

 

Evans Recognized With Award

SAN ANTONIO-Pat Evans, first VP at SACU, was named the International Credit Professional of the Year in a ceremony at the Credit Professionals International (CPI) Conference held in Bentonville, Ark.. The award is presented to an individual for outstanding achievement and service to CPI.

 

Greylock FCU Makes Sperling CEO

PITTSFIELD, Mass.-The $1.2-billion Greylock FCU has named Marilyn Sperling as president and CEO. Sperling has previously served as SVP and was serving as interim CEO.

 

CUES, Wolters Kluwer Partner

MINNEAPOLIS-Wolters Kluwer Financial Services has entered into an agreement with CUES to create CUES Compliance Solutions, which will be provided by Wolters Kluwer. As part of the alliance, Wolters Kluwer will offer assistance with compliance policies and procedures as well as audit training plans.

 

Two CUs Making Building Plans

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-ORNL FCU has purchased 37 acres in a West Oak Ridge business park to build a $30-million, 120-square-foot corporate headquarters.ORNL is projecting it will add 100 employees over the next 10 to 15 years. In North Liberty, Iowa, meanwhile, University of Iowa Community CU said it plans to build a $25 million to $30 million Member Support Center on a 245-acre site it has purchased. Plans call for completion in 2013. It will house as many as 400 people.
