MSR's Quick Thinking Nabs Bandit

NORTHGLENN, Colo.-With help from the staff of the $53-million Horizons North Credit Union here, a female suspect accused of several armed bank robberies in the north metro Denver area has been taken into custody. An HNCU member service rep recognized the suspect from earlier surveillance photos when she entered the credit union. As the suspect was asking about membership information, the MSR went behind the teller line and when out of sight alerted a VP who dialed 911. The MSR then delayed the suspect until police arrived.

Liberty First CU Is New Name

BURLINGTON, Neb.-Burlington Credit Union here will change its name to Liberty First Credit Union effective Feb. 1. The 12,000-member credit union was chartered in 1935, and expanded its FOM in 1997 to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Lancaster County, Neb. With the name change also comes a new slogan, "Better Banking for Everyone." LFCU will open its first branch this summer.

Montana CU Named Best In Town

MISSOULA, Mont.-Missoula FCU here has been voted "Best in Missoula" in the financial instituion category in a poll sponsored by two local newspapers, the Missoulian and the Missoula Independent. MFCU has won the "Best in Missoula" award for financial institution sponsored by the Independent for the last eight years and the "Missoula's Choice" award sponsored by the Missoulian for the last three years. Both polls are write-in ballots. There are more than 10 other financial institutions in Missoula.

More CUs Enter Into Mergers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Credit unions continue to announce mergers. Among them:

* The $75-million First Charter Credit Union has merged into the $1.4-billion Ent FCU.

* The $2.5-million New Hampshire Food Industry Credit Union has merged into the $450-million St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H.

* Vernonia FCU here said it will merge into Wauna Federal Credit Union, Clatskanie, Ore. The 700-member Vernonia Federal serves the Vernonia community, but only offers limited services with limited hours. VFCU will become a full-service, full-hours branch of Wauna Federal.
