Lending Award Competition Open

MADISON, Wis.-Nominations for the 2003 Credit Union Excellence in Lending Awards are being accepted until July 31. CUNA Mutual Group and the CUNA Lending Council are sponsors of the fourth annual awards. Four credit unions will receive awards-two in consumer lending and two in mortgage lending. Awards will be presented in each category to credit unions with more than $250 million in assets and to credit unions with assets less than $250 million. Miss. CU Navigates To New Name

PASCAGOULA, Miss.-After 60 years of operating as Ingalls Employees Credit Union, the CU has changed its name to Navigator Credit Union. Founded to serve employees of Ingallas Shipbuilding, the sponsor company was bought by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in 2001, at which time the board began contemplating a new name. A member survey found that 77% were in favor of a name change, with the new name being chosen in part from the credit union's tagline, "Your Family's Financial Navigator."

Fort Knox FCU Wins Reader Vote

RADCLIFF, Ky.-For the second year, Fort Knox FCU has been voted "Best Financial Institution" in Hardin County, Ky. by readers of the Elizabethtown News-Enterprise newspaper. Readers picked their favorite business or institution in 66 different categories. More than 1,000 open-ended ballots were cast this year, with FKFCU beating out two local banks.

SunCorp Boosts CIF Investment

DENVER-SunCorp said it will increase its investment in Community Investment Fund (CIF) of the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) by $9.9 million, bringing its total investment to $10 million. The $2.8-billion SunCorp said it was doing so to assist the NCUF in reaching its goal of $1 billion in the CIF by 2005. The CIF contributions represent a portion of the interest income on deposits made to the fund, and are used to provide grants, education, and funding with the aim of furthering CUs through national and state-level development initiatives.
