CUES Offering 3 Scholarships

MADISON, Wis.- The Credit Union Executives Society is offering three partial scholarships for its 2004 CEO Institute program. The scholarships will cover one-third of the cost of CUES-member-rate tuition for all three segments of CEO Institute, paid out over the three years. A panel of CEO Institute graduates will evaluate all applications based on financial need, ability to contribute to the classroom experience and dedication to the credit union profession. Maine Reactivates 'Phone Home'

WESTBROOK, Maine-Maine's credit unions have reactivated their "Operation Phone Home" program for military reservists in Maine who are called to active duty. Through Jan. 25, participating credit unions across Maine will be collecting phone cards and/or cash for "Operation Phone Home 2004 - A New Resolve." Upon its conclusion, the Maine Credit Union League will contribute all phone cards and a check to the USO to distribute to troops and their families. A similar program last spring collected more than 401,000 minutes of calling time, the third highest donation of phone cards in the nation behind only Wal-mart and Verizon.

Four To CCUC Hall of Honor

WASHINGTON -The Campus CU Council (CCUC) has announced four inductees into its 2004 Hall of Honor. They are: Pete Crear, CUNA's executive vice president; Jeff Carpenter, VP-American Association of CU Leagues; Alex Hultgren, former CCUC executive director; and Bradford Caldwell, former CCUC executive director. The four will be inducted at a ceremony Feb. 20 in Washington.

SunCorp, Kauii CU Pay Bonuses

DENVER-SunCorp Corporate Credit Union has awarded bonus dividends and service fee rebates to its member/owners totaling nearly $250,000. The checks will be distributed to more than 400 credit unions in 20 states, calculated on support of SunCorp's investments, membership shares and paid-in capital amount, and their usage of SunCorp fee-based services. In Lihue,Hawaii, Kauai Community FCU said it is awarding loan interest rebates and bonus dividends to its member totaling nearly $300,000. The total amount to be returned to members equals approximately 12.8% of its 2003 operating net income.
