Welfare-To-Work Leader To Speak

ROCHESTER, N.Y.-Jean Howard, who runs a model welfare-to-work organization in inner-city Rochester, will be the luncheon speaker for NCUA's free Partnering and Leadership Successes (PALS) workshop on Oct. 11. "Ms. Howard's innovative programs have helped thousands of the neediest people in her community become financially self-sufficient," said NCUA Board Member Debbie Matz, who organized the PALS workshops. MCUN Rated Highly In Survey

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.-Member CUs of the Minnesota Credit Union Network have given it an overall satisfaction score of 5.8 on a scale of one to seven, up from 5.7 and 5.5, respectively, in the two previous years. The MCUN said its members rated it as informative, accessible and professional, and gave high marks for "timely response to credit union needs." Its core areas of regulatory compliance, legislative advocacy, public awareness, member service and training received an overwhelming percentage of "excellent" and "good" ratings.

Austin Teachers Changes Name

AUSTIN, Texas-Austin Area Teachers FCU has a new name: A+ FCU. The credit union said its new name follows two years of research and planning and reflects the growth of its field of membership. A+ FCU serves 66,000 members.

7 Florida CUs Form CUSO

ORLANDO, Fla.-Seven Florida credit unions have formed a new business lending CUSO called The Cypress Group, LLC. The CUSO will provide underwriting, documentation and portfolio maintenance support. Investors include Campus USA, Gainesville; Central Florida Educators, Orlando; Educational Community, Jacksonville; MacDill, Tampa; Pen Air, Pensacola; Space Coast, Melbourne, and Tropical Financial, Miami. Larry Scott of Campus USA is chair.

Hispanic Heritage Is Celebrated

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill.-To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month during September, South Division Credit Union is spotlighting its VIGO Money Transfer Service. Members can send up to $1,000 to more than 40 countries for as little as $10 through the service.

"An increasing number of members have asked us to help them find a cost-efficient way to send money to family members in Mexico and other countries," said SDCU CEO Geraldine Burek.
