Maine Gov. Cites CU Leader

AUGUSTA, Maine-In his annual "State of the State" Address, Gov. John Baldacci specifically praised a credit union leader and her credit union for being involved in an important community project in the Lewiston/Auburn area. The speech, which aired statewide on Maine Public Television and Radio, included praise for the work of a task force chaired by Donna Steckino, CEO of Community Credit Union, working to improve the economy in the Lewiston and Auburn areas.

$300K Collected For Tsunami

MADISON, Wis.-More than $300,000 in tsunami relief funds have been raised by credit unions, according to the World Council of Credit Unions Inc. (WOCCU). Those funds include separate donations of $100,000 each from both the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) and CUNA Mutual Group. Numerous other credit unions have also raised funds through a variety of means.

Scott CU CEO Jim Bright Dies

ST. LOUIS-Jim Bright, CEO of Scott Credit Union, has died from a heart attack. Mr. Bright had been CEO of the credit union for 20 years and had overseen growth to $355 million from $50 million. Mr. Bright was active on the USO Board of Directors, the Leadershiip Council of Southwestern Illinois, the Defense CU Council, and the St. Louis CU Management Association. Mr. Bright is survived by his wife and two daughters.

SSFCU Staff Donates $103K

SAN ANTONIO-Employees at Security Service Federal Credit Union have committed to donating more than $103,000 to the local 2005 United Way Campaign, which would surpass last year's donation by more than 15%.
