Haynes Winner Of Crear Award

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Rita Haynes, CEO of Faith Community United CU in Cleveland, will be presented with the African American Credit Union Coalition's (AACUC) 2005 Pete Crear Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual meeting, Aug. 12-14, in Nassau, Bahamas. The AACUC made the announcement during CUNA's GAC.

CUNA Mutual Profits Increase

MADISON, Wis.-CUNA Mutual Group will announce record profits when it posts its year-end 2004 results, according to local media reports.

The company should report a record $136 million in net income for 2004, a 1.5% increase over 2003 profits of $134 million. Its operating gain on the money from its insurance and financial operations for credit unions and their members rose 8%, to $122 million in 2004, compared with $113 million in 2003, the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times reported. The company noted, however, that revenue growth has slowed and it did see a slight decrease in actual rate of return.

CUNA Mutual Adds 5 To Board

MADISON, Wis.-CUNA Mutual has named five new people to its board: Victoria W. Miller, EVP/CFO Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.; Joseph J. Gasper, CLU, retired president/COO with Nationwide Insurance; Bert Hash, CEO of Municipal Employees CU of Baltimore, Inc.; William B. Eckhardt, president and CEO, Alaska USA FCU, and Jeff H. Post, CUNA Mutual's new CEO. Ralph B. Canterbury, board member since 1982 has retired, and Jerald R. Hinrichs, board member since 1993 will retire in June.

D.C. League Seeks Merger Partner

WASHINGTON-The D.C. Credit Union League has asked both the Maryland and Virginia CU Leagues to submit proposals for a potential merger with the league that serves CUs in the nation's capital. The D.C. league has been operating under a management agreement with the Virginia league since Oct. 1, 1998.
