PALS Conference In Baltimore
BALTIMORE, Md.-NCUA Board Member Debbie Matz has scheduled a free Partnering and Leadership Successes (PALS) workshop entitled "Knock Out Predatory Lenders and Improve Your Bottom Line" for July 7 in Baltimore. At the workshop, panels of credit union leaders will share their best practices in attracting members who previously relied on check-cashers, payday lenders, pawn shops and other predatory lenders to meet their cash needs. CFO Scholarship Is Offered
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA CFO Council has created a scholarship program to improve education, skills, and opportunities for credit union employees with CFO responsibilities. It is open to al credit union employees with responsibilities similar to those of a CFO, regardless of their actual title.

Janacek To Chair CU Commission
TEMPLE, Texas-Gary Janacek, president/CEO of Scott & White Employees, has been appointed by Texas. Rick Perry as chairman of the Texas Credit Union Commission. Janacek, a former CUNA chairman, succeeds Gary Base, CEO of Community CU, Plano, which is attempting to convert to a mutual savings bank.
Measure Calls For Education
CHEYENNE, Wyo.-Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal has signed Senate Joint Resolution 005, which encourages the Wyoming Department of Education to include as much financial education as possible in school curriculum. The measure was initiated by the state's credit unions.
100,000th Member Being Sought
WESTBURY, N.Y.-Nassau Educators FCU said it has welcomed its 100,000th member. The $900-million credit union was founded in 1938 by 10 teachers and hit $1 million in assets by 1948.
La Capitol To Build New HQ
BATON ROUGE, La.-La Capitol FCU will break ground later this month on a six-story downtown project that will serve as its new headquarters. The 77,000-square-foot facility will more than triple La Cap's office space, and will house the $265-million CU's 95 employees and expand member services.
