NSECU CEO John Jones Dies

ST. LOUIS-John Jones, 55, president of Neosho School Employees CU in Missouri died after being struck by a large wave while vacationing in Hawaii. Jones was with his wife, Lynn, when both were struck by the wave near the Queen's Bath on Kauai and knocked to a rock ledge. Lynn Jones suffered a broken leg, while John Jones was swept away. His body was later recovered. Clione Hatfield, president, Southwest Counties School Employees CU, Neosho, is acting as CEO.

Tiny Bronx CU Is Liquidated

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has placed Korean-American Chamber of Commerce Federal Credit Union of Bronx, N.Y. into liquidation. NCUA's Asset Management and Assistance Center will issue checks to individuals holding verified share accounts in the CU. The agency said it liquidated the $30,000 credit union after finding it insolvement and after management abandoned credit union operations. It was founded in 1979,

Staff Helps Bust Scammer

ATHENS, Ohio-Quick work by staff at Ohio University Credit Union helped nab a thief. After learning that an OU student who was also a member had had her debit card and other credit cards stolen, OUCU employees Christina Barr and Ami Thompson were researching the member's account for the last transaction that she had made when a new transaction from CVS occurred. They immediately called CVS to see if the person who made the transaction was still there. The store clerk gave a description of the man, who was still in the building. Police were contacted and they arrested the man at CVS. OUCU reported its recent move to an online, real-time card system had made the arrest possible.

Day Air Again Offering HELP

KETTERING, Ohio-The $136-million Day Air Credit Union said it will again join with the City of Kettering with a home improvement loan program called HELP - the Home Enhancement Loan Program. If homeowners qualify for the Home Enhancement Loan, the City of Kettering will buy down 1% of each loan, and Day Air Credit Union will offer an additional 50 basis points off.
