NYSCUL Adds 'Chapters,' Project

LATHAM, N.Y.-The New York State Credit Union league has renamed its 14 districts as "chapters." The league said the name change was primarily made to better differentiate the league's districts from congressional districts, as well as to bring them in alignment with a number of other state leagues that have chapters instead of districts.

Separately, the league has been awarded a $31,216 grant from the National Credit Union Foundation. The grant will fund a portion of the league's "Making the Strategic Connection" project, which was designed to support the growth and development of small asset size credit unions.

The pilot project, which will be conducted in partnership with the New York Credit Union Foundation, is a three-dimensional program that will include planning workshops, the development of a functional marketing plan and a comprehensive financial forecast.

In the first year, the league is planning to work with 15 credit unions experiencing slow membership growth, low loan growth and stressed profitability. Over three years, the league is forecasting that it will work with 45 credit unions or 14% of the current population of small credit unions.
