CU Pioneer Trujillo Dies

SANTA FE, N.M.-New Mexico CU pioneer Gilbert Trujillo, past manager of State Employees Credit Union and volunteer at Guadalupe Credit Union, has died at age 81. Trujillo and his wife Fannie, a former manager at Guadalupe Credit Union, helped establish credit unions in South America and low-income areas in the United States.

Hume To Be Honored By WOCCU

DUBLIN, Ireland-John Hume, a former politician and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, will be presented with the Distinguished Service Award from the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) during its world conference in July. At age 23, Hume also co-founded the first credit union (Derry CU) in Northern Ireland, later serving as president of the Irish League of Credit Unions and on the board of what would become WOCCU. He is the only current life director of the Irish League board.

Discovery Conference Sold Out

LAS VEGAS-CUNA Mutual is reporting that its Discovery Conference to be held here in June has sold out, with more than 1,200 expected to attend. The meeting, themed "Ideas. Inspiration. Innovation," is being held at the new Wynn Hotel.

Canada's Nygren To Retire

VANCOUVER, B.C.-Wayne Nygren, CEO of Credit Union Central of British Columbia, is retiring after 20 years in the position. During his tenure Nygren oversaw asset growth to $4.7 billion from $1 billion. In addition to his activities in the Vancouver community, Nygren, 61, was also well known for his work within Canada's credit unions.
