$26M of free gasoline for Shell cardholders.

NEW YORK -- Shell gas stations have pumped $26 million in free gasoline for customers who use Shell MasterCards, according to Shell Oil Co. and Chemical Banking Corp.

The card was introduced in November.

"Both new cardholders and those cardholders who converted from Shell's proprietary card are responsible for the high card usage and the volume of gasoline redeemed," said Charles R. Walsh, Chemical Bank's executive vice president.

The Shell MasterCard from Chemical Bank offers a 2% rebate on general purchases and 1% on Shell gasoline purchases, up to $70 a year.
