Abu Dhabi Weighs Payback for BCCI Depositors
BRUSSELS - Luxembourg's request to Abu Dhabi for compensation for depositors of Bank of Credit and Commerce International is being examined, Luxembourg Monetary Institute director general Pierre Jaans said.
"I can only say the message was well taken and is being examined," Mr. Jaans told Reuters by telephone. He declined to comment further. Abu Dhabi is BCCI's majority shareholder.
The institute, which supervises the grand duchy's banking sector, had earlier asked Abu Dhabi to extend the compensation package for BCCI's British depositors to BCCI's Luxembourg depositors and employees.
