Alabama's Alert ATM network renews contract with Deluxe.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Alert Network Inc., the major shared automated teller machine network in Alabama, said it has signed a five-year renewal of its data processing contract with Deluxe Data Systems.

Deluxe, the Milwaukee-based transaction processing unit of Deluxe Corp. of Minneapolis, has been serving Alert for six years. Deluxe provides network switching services for 80 member financial institutions with more than 600 automatic teller machines in Alabama.

Deluxe also links those institutions to several other ATM networks: Pulse, based in Texas; Honor in the Southeast; Star System in the West; GulfNet in Louisiana and other parts of the South; the nationwide Plus and Cirrus systems, and the Armed Forces Financial Network.

'Near-Perfect Record'

Alert's president, Ron Freiwald, said several other bids were competitive with Deluxe's. Its bid was selected because of the company's full line of services and its "near-perfect switching record," Mr. Freiwald said.

Deluxe serves numerous other regional networks.
