American Savings Names Executive

American Savings of Florida, Miami, elected Charles H. Holland Jr. chief operating officer.

He had been executive vice president-corporate strategy and support.

Mr. Holland will continue to be responsible for corporate strategy, board committee relations, and overall management of corporate operations, including information systems, human resources, corporate real estate, appraisal, auditing, and compliance.

Most recently, he was appointed chairman of the steering committee overseeing the bank's merger with First Union Corp.
