B of A, Wells branches vandalized in D.C. before inauguration

Masked demonstrators dressed in black smashed the windows and ATMs of bank branches in Washington in the hours before the inauguration of President Donald Trump Friday.

A Wells Fargo branch and a Bank of America branch near the National Mall, the site of the inauguration ceremony, were targeted in the attack, according to media reports and tweets from reporters on the scene. The exact locations of the two branches were not immediately clear.

No injuries were reported at Bank of America, according to a company spokeswoman. A spokesman for Wells Fargo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The safety and security of our associates is our top priority,” said Tara Burke, the spokeswoman for Bank of America. She declined to provide additional details.

A spokesman for the District of Columbia police said the department is investigating several incidents of vandalism, but could not provide further details.

Protesters also smashed windows at a number of other major franchises in the area, including Starbucks and McDonald’s.

About 500 protesters took part in the demonstration, and were confronted by police in riot gear, according to several reports.

Roughly a million people were expected to attend the inauguration on the National Mall.
