Banc One Loses Fund Marketing Exec

Horby, who had been in charge of marketing Banc One's mutual funds outside the bank channel, left the company to join another firm. Banc One has been beset by disruptive personnel changes in its mutual fund and brokerage arms for well over a year. But the Columbus, Ohio-based banking company showed signs that it was refocusing its efforts to boost distribution of its mutual funds and pump new life into its institutional business. Mr. Horby will join the financial institutional services unit of Allmerica Financial Cos., Worcester, Mass., as a managing director on Dec. 1. He will work out of the company's Cincinnati office. Allmerica now has selling agreements with just two banks, and Mr. Horby hopes to boost that number.
