Bank of New York Co. and its principal subsidiary have elected Dr. William C. Richardson, president and chief executive officer of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, as a director.

The foundation is based in Battle Creek, Mich.

Dr. Richardson is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and is a fellow of the American Public Health Association. Before he joined the Kellogg foundation in 1995, he was president of the Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University, a post he held since 1990.
