Bank of Tokyo names chief in U.S.

NEW YORK - The Bank of Tokyo Ltd. said it has appointed Kaoru Hayama resident senior managing director for the Americas, based in New York.

Mr. Hayama, 57, will also have the title of chairman of Bank of Tokyo Trust Co., New York.

Bank of Tokyo's U.S. assets, at $50.2 billion, make it the largest foreign bank operating in the country. It was the 22d-largest bank in the world at the end of 1991, with $219 billion in assets.

Mr. Hayama, who had been in charge of corporate planning at headquarters in Tokyo, succeeds Koretsugu Kodama, who is returning to Tokyo as senior managing director of business promotion activities.

Until recently, Mr. Hayama was a member of a committee formed by the Ministry of Finance to recommend Japanese financial reforms.

Mr. Hayama joined the Bank of Tokyo after graduation from Hitotsubashi University in 1958.

He became assistant manager of the London office in 1967 and was deputy general manager of the New York agency from February 1979 to February 1982. He has also held executive positions in Hong Kong and Osaka.
