BankAmerica to Close a Calif. Call Center

BankAmerica Corp. said it will close its Oakland, Calif., retail brokerage call center by yearend.

The 100 people employed at the center can apply for positions at the Charlotte, N.C., bank's two other call centers in Charlotte and Seattle or jobs elsewhere in the company, a spokeswoman said. Call centers handle brokerage customer account inquiries.

BankAmerica has already announced the elimination of 300 broker and support positions nationwide because of consolidation stemming from its Sept. 30 merger with NationsBank Corp.
