JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Barnett Banks Inc. confirmed Tuesday that it is the target of a federal probe concerning discriminatory lending practices at six of its affiliate banks. But company officials also denied knowledge of any basis for the investigation by the Department of Justice. "We have no indication - none - as to why they're asking us for this information," said spokesman Robert Stickler. "We'd like them to say."
