WILSON, N.C. -- BB&T Financial Corp. and Home Savings Bank of Albemarle said they "strongly disagree" with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s objection to the banks' proposed merger.

The FDIC objected, alleging the deal was driven by insider interest and saying the Home Savings directors had breached their fiduciary duty in approving the transaction.

The banks said they intend to continue to work with the FDIC to try to resolve their differences and get the transaction done.
