ST. LOUIS - Boatmen's Bancshares has completed the acquisition of First Amarillo Bancorp., which has about $800 million in assets.
Boatmen's said that under the agreement, it exchanged 5.8 million of its common shares for First Amarillo.
As reported on Nov. 18, First Amarillo said the effective date of the acquisition would be today, assuming all remaining conditions were fulfilled.
Boatmen's said it has assets of about $26 billion.
The Federal Reserve chair's comments coincide with the spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington. They also come as groups like the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision are being scrutinized.
