Canada's Royal Bank reports earnings rise.

TORONTO - Royal Bank of Canada's results for the nine months to July 31 were better than expected, chairman and chief executive Allan Taylor said.

"Net income for the first nine months of 1993 has exceeded planned results," Taylor said in a statement.

Royal Bank, Canada's largest bank in terms of assets, reported quarterly earnings of $0.77 a share from $0.34, making $2.56 for the nine months against against $2.01.

However, the three-month result was below market expectations of between $0.79 and $0.99 a share.
