Capital Brief: Center to Take Aim at Computer Hackers

Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers unveiled Friday a financial services industry-owned facility for sharing information on attacks or threats from computer hackers.

The center was set up by 14 financial services organizations, including Bank of America Corp. and Merrill Lynch & Co. It would broadcast a warning about any suspicious activity detected by the companies. All communications, including recommended protection measures, would be made by encrypted e-mail and the original reports of problems would be anonymous.
