Capital Briefs: Judge Delays IBAA Credit Union Challenge

A federal judge has put on hold the Independent Bankers Association of America's challenge to the government's decision to let Red River Employees Federal Credit Union serve more than one company.

U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Jackson said he wants to wait for the Supreme Court to decide the AT&T Family Federal Credit Union case before acting on the Red River dispute.

Both cases center on whether every member of a credit union must share a single, common bond. The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments in the AT&T Family case this fall and issue a decision in January. IBAA sued Bowie County, Tex.-based Red River in January.
