Capital Briefs: Year-2000 Summit Scheduled for Bankers

The Clinton administration will hold a year-2000 summit here Thursday for the financial services industry.

Sponsored by the President's Council on Year-2000 Conversion, the conference is to focus on promoting customer awareness of the millennium bug and contingency planning.

Speakers are to include House Banking Committee Chairman Jim Leach, Citibank vice president Jim Devlin, Comptroller of the Currency John D. Hawke Jr., Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Donna A. Tanoue, and Office of Thrift Supervision Director Ellen Seidman.

The conference is being organized by the Federal Financial Service Group, a unit of the President's council that comprises 27 federal agencies involved in the credit, equity, derivatives, and debt markets.
