Capital One to Hike U.K. Spending, Hiring

Capital One Financial Corp. has accelerated its United Kingdom expansion plans.

The monoline lender said it would put an extra $33 million into an operations center in Nottingham, England, and hire 1,200 more people there by next year.

When the center, Trent House, was opened in July, Capital One said it had committed $50 million to it and would hire 900 people.

"Our speed of growth in the U.K. has exceeded our expectations," said Nigel Morris, president and chief operating officer. "We are confident our additional investment in Nottingham and its people will soon pay dividends as a foundation for our expansion in the U.K."
