Card Briefs: Advanta CEO Pete Hart Gets Association Award

Alex W. "Pete" Hart, chief executive officer of Advanta Corp., has received the Electronic Funds Transfer Association's 1997 Robert A. Mooney Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Hart, a pioneer in the bank card and EFT businesses, has been working at Spring House, Pa.-based Advanta since 1994. He spent the five years before that as president and chief executive officer of MasterCard International, and worked earlier in his career at First Interstate Bancorp and First National Bank of Chicago.

While at First Interstate, he was the founding chairman of the Cirrus automated teller machine network and was chairman of the Maestro International Board.

"This would be a far different business without his accomplishments," said EFT Association chairman Robert P. Barone.

The award is named for a deceased J.C. Penney Co. executive and association co-founder.
