Card Briefs: Calif.'s Goodby Picked As Discover's Ad Shop

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.'s Discover credit card unit has designated Goodby, Silverstein & Partners as its new advertising agency.

San Francisco-based Goodby Silverstein was chosen over seven other agencies, including DDB Needham Worldwide, the agency Morgan Stanley had used for 12 years.

"Over the past several months, we have been looking for an advertising agency that can take Discover Card to the next level," said Catherine Davis, the card company's vice president of advertising and communications. "We are confident that Goodby will provide a new perspective and fresh approach that will help Discover Card reposition itself."

No release date has been set for a new campaign, Discover said.
