Card Briefs: Cash Station, Ameritech in Prepaid Card Venture

CHICAGO - Cash Station Inc. and Ameritech Corp. have created an alliance to market prepaid calling cards.

Terms of the venture were not disclosed.

Beginning in January, consumers will be able to use Cash Station automated teller machine cards to purchase a calling card account with an initial value between $10 and $50. The prepaid calling card number, which will appear on at ATM receipt, will allow consumers to place telephone calls worldwide.

Ameritech, the Chicago-based regional bell operating company, will handle the local calls, and has contracted with several long-distance providers for other calls.
