Card Briefs: Equifax in Alliance With UK Yellow Pages

Equifax Inc. formed an alliance with UK Yellow Pages Group, a division of British Telecommunications PLC, to sell commercial business information.

UK Yellow Pages will combine its data on business locations with Equifax's data base of companies' directors and financial performance.

Nick Bevan, executive vice president of Equifax, said the alliance addresses a "serious gap in the business-to-business market, an area that is growing rapidly through increased competition and the emergence of e- commerce."

Equifax said it also had increased its ownership of the ASNEF-Equifax credit bureau in Spain to a 58% stake. The company manages information on 38 million people for Spain's largest banks.

Separately, Equifax said its domestic U.S. data base of consumers who do not pay their telephone bills has been in operation since March. Equifax was selected by a group of telephone carriers, the National Consumer Telecommunications Data Exchange, to manage this information in order to boost collections and improve risk evaluation.
