Card Briefs: Foreign Banks to Use HNC Fraud Package

HNC Software Inc. announced contracts with two international card-issuing banks to use its Falcon fraud detection technology.

HNC said Banco Nacional de Mexico, known as Banamex, has begun using the Falcon anti-fraud system for bank cards, the Falcon Expert subsystem for streamlining fraud-prevention operations, and the Eagle merchant risk management system.

After installing Falcon a year earlier, Banamex installed Falcon Expert "in a record two weeks," said Lee Martin, HNC's vice president of sales. "They even translated the user interface to Spanish, allowing fraud analysts to become productive almost immediately."

In the United Kingdom, Lloyds Bank said it will use Falcon and Falcon Expert to enhance its authorization processes.

Lloyds will be assisted by its processor, FDR Ltd., a subsidiary of First Data Corp. of the United States.

Lloyds Bank, part of Lloyds TSB Group, is the first FDR Ltd. client with a real-time implementation of Falcon, which uses neural network technology to detect fraudulent transaction patterns.
