Card Briefs: GTS Testing Prepaid Phone Cards for Kids

ELMONT, N.Y. - Global Telecommunication Solutions Inc., a marketer of prepaid phone cards, will distribute its colorful cards to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Under an arrangement with San Francisco-based School Properties Inc., an organization designed to assist school districts generate funds through ventures with corporations, GTS will begin a pilot program this fall in Illinois, with a national rollout to follow.

Parents of children in kindergarten through third grade will be targeted with the SOS/safety card that their kids can use to contact them in an emergency with a preprogrammed phone number.

Older students will be lured with phone cards bearing sports, rock, and other entertainment figures licensed to the company.

Revenues from the sales will be shared with school districts.
