The U.K.-based card processing unit of First Data Corp. has signed a five-year agreement to use an HNC Software Inc. products to protect its client banks against fraud.
First Data Resources Ltd. will use Falcon, a neural network system that examines cardholder and merchant data for signs of suspicious activity. The company will market a version of Falcon tailored to its United Kingdom clients.
HNC is based in San Diego.
First Data Corp. also said its oil services group has entered a partnership with BP Oil Co., Houston, a subsidiary of London-based British Petroleum Co., to process its credit-card transactions in the United States.
First Data will handle proprietary card transactions as well as those on other cards accepted at BP, including MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
