Card briefs: IBAA Bancard to Push MasterCard Debit Plans

NEW YORK - MasterCard International and IBAA Bancard said they have formed an alliance to market MasterCard's debit program.

The Complete Debit Program includes MasterMoney, MasterCard's off-line debit card; Maestro, its on-line card; and Cirrus, its international network of automated teller machines.

This is the latest in a series of marketing alliances that MasterCard has entered into in the past two years as it tries to accelerate point of sale debit in the United States.

IBAA Bancard has had an agreement with Visa U.S.A. for two years to allow its members to issue Visa Check cards. Through its new EFT division, IBAA plans to offer members access to the on-line versions from both associations - Visa's Interlink and MasterCard's Maestro.

IBAA Bancard, a service of the IBAA Community Banking Network, has 1,700 community bank participants in its payment system programs.
