Card Briefs: MasterCard Broadens Use of Elekom System

Elekom Corp. said MasterCard International has begun to expand deployment of the Elekom Procurement system.

After automating the purchasing function for 250 MasterCard employees over the last eight months, the system is being rolled out to 2,300 people, which the software vendor said makes it one of the largest implementations of a commercial electronic procurement system.

The system allows employees to select goods and services from local catalogues containing more than 10,000 items, electronically place orders with suppliers, and pay with the MasterCard purchasing card. The selection of goods is also being expanded.

Jim Cullinan, MasterCard's vice president for global purchasing, said the positive test results made it "a logical progression to deploy the application companywide."
