Card Briefs: MasterCard Names Chief Financial Officer

MasterCard International named Frank Cotroneo senior vice president and chief financial officer.

The position had been vacant since the death of Edward H. Brode in June 1995.

Mr. Cotroneo, 38, an eight-year veteran of MasterCard, has been treasurer since July. He will report to William Jacobs, executive vice president, global resources.

As vice president, regional finance, based in Singapore from 1992 to 1996, Mr. Cotroneo oversaw financial planning, budgeting, and accounting for the fast-growing Asia/Pacific region.

"My first intention is to grow from within," said Mr. Cotroneo on his vision for the future. "The talent pool we have here is very valuable." The department "needs people who are not necessarily numbers crunchers but problem solvers," he added.

Before joining MasterCard, Mr. Cotroneo held financial analyst positions at AT&T, Continental Insurance, and Western Union.
