Card Briefs: NationsBank Installs Post Office ATMs Carolinas

NationsBank announced the rollout of point of sale terminals that will take American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, and automated teller machine cards at 100 postal branches in the Carolinas.

The most recent installations bring to 30,000 the number of terminals that have been installed by NationsBank nationally as part of the Postal Service plan to accept credit cards for payment of retail services.

In February 1995, NationsBank and First Data Merchant Services, a subsidiary of First Data Corp., Hackensack, N.J., were awarded a contract to install 50,000 terminals and provide processing for the 33,000 post office branches nationwide by early 1997.

Under the terms of a three-year agreement valued at $45.8 million, First Data Merchant Services will handle the equipment installation and the transaction processing, and NationsBank will be the relationship manager and banking provider.
