Card Briefs: N.Y. Ad Agency Wins Capital One Account

Capital One Financial Corp. has chosen D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles Communications as its new advertising agency of record.

The ninth-largest credit card issuer plans to spend $80 million to $100 million on advertising, interactive communications, and global branding over the next 12 to 18 months with DMB&B.

Direct marketing will continue to be handled by Capital One's in-house agency, which spent $446 million in 1998.

Capital One began its search for an agency in December.

DMB&B is a New York-based unit of MacManus Group.
