Card Briefs: Nynex Cellular Linkup For Transaction Network

Transaction Network Services Inc. said it reached an agreement with Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile to use its cellular network.

Using Bell Atlantic's Airbridge Cellular Digital Packet Data service, Transaction Network will provide network access to clients who don't have access to telephone lines.

Transation Network said it would be able to offer the cellular service by yearend.

It can also be used to supplement transaction processing for retailers during peak seasons. Retailers can set up impromptu checkout lanes with cellular point of sale devices.

The deal expands TNS' services, which include swift telephone connections to its transaction processing network, primarily used for credit card authorization.

"We have built our reputation on the latest and best access methodology for our customers for transaction capabilities," said Karen Kazmark, a company spokeswoman. "As our customers increase their transaction volume by using CDPD, that will increase our transaction volume as well."

She said cost and speed should be equivalent to the current land-line phone system.

Transaction Network Services is a data communications services provider for various transaction functions.

Bell Atlantic, based in Bedminster, N.J., is the one of the largest providers of wireless communication services in the United States, with a primary focus on the East Coast.
