Card Briefs: On-Line Finance Firm To Advertise on AOL

GetSmart, a company that helps on-line consumers compare rates on credit cards and mortgages, has signed an advertising deal with America Online.

AOL will provide links to GetSmart's Web site from its home page and its personal finance area.

Two-year-old GetSmart said its site is visited 760,000 times a month and has begun fielding 114,000 loan applications a month. Applications are forwarded to the loan-issuing companies.

The deal "will give our members access to key information, enabling them to evaluate consumer loan products and helping them make informed choices about their loan options," said Myer Berlow, AOL's senior vice president for interactive marketing.

William Fisher, GetSmart's chief executive officer, said his company's service will give AOL members "easy access to on-line borrowing and financial services."

GetSmart's board includes former MasterCard chief executive officer Alex W. "Pete" Hart and Intuit Inc. co-founder Tom Proulx.
