Card Briefs: SPS Supplying Card For Children's Place

RIVERWOODS, Ill. - SPS Transaction Services Inc. said it has signed a five-year agreement to provide private-label credit card services to the Children's Place.

The retailer will officially launch the program Monday.

It is the latest of a series of signings by SPS, a Dean Witter, Discover & Co. unit that is challenging leaders in retailer credit like GE Capital and Citicorp. SPS recently agreed to take over Tandy Corp.'s private-label business, including Radio Shack accounts.

Stanley Silver, chief operating officer of the Children's Place, said the in-house card "is important to our marketing strategy . . . With (SPS') help, we will be in a better position to identify and market to our best customers."
