Card Briefs: Web Payment Service For Natwest Merchants

The on-line payment processor Cybersource Corp. has announced a service for Internet merchant customers of National Westminster Bank of London.

The Natwest multicurrency gateway service lets on-line merchants accept payments in more than 150 different currencies. It can also credit merchant accounts in any of 19 currencies, including the euro.

Cybersource said its credit card processing system should appeal to U.S. merchants selling worldwide and to overseas merchants wanting to offer localized services within Europe or selling in the United States.

The California company also offers multicurrency payment processing via IBM NetTrade Finance and gives merchants direct links to other major card processors such as Vital Processing, First Data, and Paymentech.

"Cybersource's goal is to make it simple for merchants in any geographic region to engage in global e-commerce," said Tony Bates, executive vice president of the company. "The new payment processing gateway removes the impediments presented by multiple competing currencies. It also opens the door to a viable merchant-banking relationship for Cybersource merchants looking to establish a localized European presence."
