Cards Briefs: Chinese Banks Issuing On-Line Debit Cards

A number of banks have begun issuing on-line debit cards for the first time in China.

China Construction Bank said it is issuing the Visa Interlink Dragon card in Beijing, Dalian, and 13 other cities in Shandong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces.

The bank will convert some 1.8 million proprietary debit cards to Interlink during the next 18 months, and up to four million cards within three years.

Meanwhile, the Agricultural Bank of China said it will begin issuing Maestro on-line debit cards in 12 cities.

Separately, International Bank of Asia said it is issuing Interlink cards in Hong Kong.
